Afroria’s FOAD (Feed One a Day) initiative is about feeding the mind, body and soul.
The Afroria team visited L.E.A (Local Education Authority) Primary School, Life Camp located in Gwarinpa District in Abuja, Nigeria on May 25, 2017.
Prior to Afroria's visit, we conducted a survey to find out what the students lacked. The Head Mistress (the Administrator of the school) stated that writing materials such as pencils, erasers and even exercise books were needed by the students.
On the day of the program, we arrived at the school during their break time (recess) and the class teachers helped to co-ordinate the students. We had insightful and fun conversations with the students. They were asked what their favorite subjects were, what they wanted to become in future and to say a few words about themselves. We discovered that most of them wanted to be doctors, lawyers, soldiers and a young boy named Philip wanted to become a Millionaire!
After our interactive session with the children, we provided the Afroria Bags which contained, exercise books, pencils and erasers. We were able to distribute the items to 113 students, encouraging them to excel in their studies and assuring them that we care about their success.
The children were ecstatic! They were all smiles! They chorused “Thank you” and nearly mobbed (lovingly) the project lead and Afroria Founder, Efosa Eluma, when she wanted to take pictures with them.
Afroria provided basic school supplies, but the joy in their eyes gave us so much more.
